Hopper Barges

Ashton Marine owns and operates two ABS Great Lakes hopper barges. These covered barges carry cargo below deck, making them ideal for cargo that needs to remain dry, such as agricultural, aggregates, finished steel and project cargo. Our two hopper barges are capable of moving up to 1,900 tons of cargo each for a total of 3,800 tons on the Great Lakes. These barges were built to the optimal size for river system shipping: 200’ x 35’ taking up only one spot in a river tow making it cost effective to get product in and out of the river system without having to transload.
